Kathy Hochul ascended to the Governorship after the fall of Andrew Cuomo. Hochul defied early expectations of a competitive primary and easily dispatched her opponents to secure the nomination for a second term. She will now face Long Island Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin, who defeated Andrew Giuliani to claim his party’s nomination. Zeldin faces tough odds in the general election, both thanks to the New York political terrain, and his close ties to Donald Trump, who never got more than 38% of the vote in the Empire State.
