NYC Mayor Race Polling 2025

In New York City, the winner of the Democratic primary on June 24th will instantly become the decisive favorite to win the General Election and become the mayor of America’s biggest city. New York City uses Ranked Choice Voting - voters can rank up to five candidates on their ballots, and in each round, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, with their votes redistributed to the next choice on their supporters’ ballots. This process continues until one candidate secures at least 50% of the vote.

Current Mayor Eric Adams is deeply unpopular, including with Democratic Primary voters, putting him at serious risk of becoming just the second Mayor since 1950 to lose the nomination. His struggles have drawn a crowded field of challengers eager to unseat him. Leading the pack is Former Governor Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo has proven to be a talented political warrior, but he could be vulnerable due to the corruption and sexual assault scandals that prematurely ended his third term as Governor.

If Cuomo falters, there are plenty of other candidates ready to rise. Comptroller Brad Lander is seeking the mayorship, as is former Comptroller Scott Stringer, who finished 5th in the 2021 race. Progressive stalwart Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani has emerged as a fundraising juggernaut, and seeks to claim the progressive mantle, though he will first have to outpace State Senators Jessica Ramos and Zellnor Myrie.

Track voters first and second choice preferences, and explore voters’ preferences in each borough. Soon, we will be launching an interactive simulation of ranked choice voting, which we used to almost perfectly predict both the 2021 NYC Mayor’s race and Mary Peltola’s 2022 victory in the Alaska House Race.
