In 2018, Governor Scott Walker tried to win a third straight term as Governor, but he was denied by Tony Evers, the Democratic Superintendent of Public Instruction, becoming just the second Democratic Governor in the Badger State since 1988. Evers put education front and center of his campaign, taking advantage of Walker’s unpopular cuts to public education. His strategy proved successful, and he squeaked out a narrow 1.1% victory.
Evers is now running for re-election himself and will be facing the co-owner of a construction company, Tim Michels, who beat Scott Walker's former Lieutenant Governor in the primary.
RacetotheWH launched in the 2020 election cycle, and our forecast was one of the nation's most accurate. This was particularly true in Georgia, where we anticipated all three of Democrat’s narrow victories, and called Raphael Warnock the frontrunner over a month before most other prognosticators. We hope to build on that success in 2022.
