3. House Election Forecast
Republicans in Florida could be primed to pick up several seats in 2022, benefitting both from their recent gains in the state and from one of the most extreme gerrymanders in the country. A key race to watch is in South Florida, where Republicans famously outperformed expectations and kept the traditional Democratic stronghold competitive. 2022 will be a test of whether they can maintain their new support. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) is up for re-election after beating incumbent Donna Shalala (D) by 3.5%. She'll be the favorite to win re-election, but Democrats have a shot at an upset in a district that has a partisan lean of D+0.3%.
Republicans have the edge in two open races - the open FL-13th located in St. Petersburgh, and the FL-15th in Central Florida. Finally, on paper Democrats should win the FL-23rd seat comfortably, but it could be in play if Republicans continue to gain in South Florida and win the House in a red wave.
