Michigan is probably the hardest state for Trump to retain that he won in 2016. However, it would expand his path to re-election considerably. Trump will likely need an even greater surge of support from rural and white voters without a college degree to make up for his lost ground in the Detroit suburbs.
However, that won't be enough if Trump keeps making so many Michigan specific unforced errors, like:
Cheering on armed protesters seizing the capitol
Promising to cut off all federal funds if they switch to absentee ballots
Threatening to stop sending ventilators if the governor isn’t nicer to him
These antics aren't helping him win him any new support. There’s enough time for him to recover, but you can bet the Biden campaign will be reminding voters of those mistakes until November 3rd.
